"Procrastination
is like a credit card: it's a lot of fun until you get the bill." -
Christopher Parker
"Procrastination
makes easy things hard, hard things harder." - Mason Cooley
According to the
American Heritage Dictionary, procrastination is defined as:
"To postpone or delay needlessly. To put off doing something, especially out
of habitual carelessness or laziness"
In more than 25
years as a professional organizer I see time and time again the trouble and
stress created by being disorganized.
Often, behind it
all is PROCRASTINATION.
I was going to send
these tips in next month's newsletter, but...
Tips to Overcome Procrastination
1) Organize a
specific schedule to accomplish tasks and then stick to it.
2) Think of the
consequences of what will happen if you don't do something. You might even try
exaggerating them to change your thinking. "If I don't stop procrastinating
I'll lose my job, have a nervous breakdown, and lose my house!"
3) Always start
with the most difficult things, not the easiest, first.
4) Plan fun or
leisurely activities for right after you've completed something you want to
put off. This type of reward system can have a very positive impact on
procrastination and the tendency to procrastinate.
5) Simply FORCE
yourself to do something NOW.
6) Strictly limit
time-wasters like television, the phone, even the Internet!
7) Work together
with a friend who procrastinates to support each other.
8) Visualize a
well-organized, in-control, life where you meet all your deadlines easily.
9) Develop more
time-efficient ways to do things.
10) Play little
games with yourself: Treat meeting deadlines and other time-sensitive
activities as a life-or-death situation!
11) Don't think
about it too much, JUST DO IT!
If you're having
trouble getting organized don't put it off any longer. If you don't have time
for an on-site visit, consider at telephone consultation. Many of the people
who have hired me for
a 3
Hour Transformation then use
telephone
consultations from time-to-time to stay on track.
Update On My New
Year's Resolution to: Streamline My Administrative Procedures
My computer
consultant, Kate Ritter, installed Maxtor Software on my computer. It
automatically backs up my computer files once a week.
It is one less item
on my task list. I do have the option to do manual back up if I choose to back
something up in the meantime. No more guilt because I didn't back up my files.
Less stress. To reduce your stress contact Kate at
